Rutland benefits from a central location in the heart of England, which makes accessing the county very easy. It is well served by major A-roads and lies a convenient distance from major motorways. Click here to view Rutland on Google Maps.
If you are travelling by car, Rutland lies just off the A1, roughly half way between London and York. The A47 from Leicester to Peterborough also passes through the county.
Oakham, the main county town of Rutland, has its own railway station providing visitors with excellent rail connections to the rest of the country. Rail services are run by East Midlands Trains. Connections to Oakham are available from Peterborough, Leicester, Nottingham and beyond. Please check operator website for further information on prices and travel times.
Rutland is an inland county, and therefore travelling times from UK ports to the county may take longer than other methods of travel. The closest seaport is Harwich, which is approximately a 2 hrs 45 minute drive away. From Dover approximately 3 hours.
Ryanair and Easyjet budget airlines fly from all three airports, although Luton Airport for Ryanair is restricted to peak season holiday times. Other airlines operate from these airports too.
